Hackers create fake repositories, which run malicious software to steal cryptocurrency, login credentials, and browsing data. The hack is particularly affecting users in Russia, Brazil, and Turkey, and has been active for at least two years, with one instance involving the theft of five Bitcoins, worth $442,000.
