Kaiser Permanente employee allegedly breaches EHR

Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States announced that unauthorized access to its electronic health record system exposed patient information for over 8,500 individuals. The company’s investigation found that an employee accessed medical records without justification. While no financial or social security data was compromised, no evidence shows that the accessed information was shared or used for fraudulent purposes. The employee no longer works for the company, and Kaiser is reviewing policies and alerting affected patients.
