Iranian Hackers Exploit PLCs in Attack on Water Authority in U.S.

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is responding to a cyber attack on the Municipal Water Authority of Aliquippa in Pennsylvania by Iranian-backed group Cyber Av3ngers. The hackers exploited Unitronics programmable logic controllers to seize control of the water booster station. The Municipality responded by taking the system offline and switching to manual operation. CISA advises changing default passwords and enforcing multi-factor authentication to protect against future attacks.
