Malware is an intrusive software distributed by cyber criminals to steal unsuspecting users’ data, typically via infected files or links. Malware types include ransomware, Trojan horses, adware, and spyware. Once activated, malware gathers information about the device and user’s credentials, forwarding this information to hackers for illicit use. Malware attacks mainly aim to extract data to make money illegally, costing an average of $4.35M per data breach globally. Protection includes investing in superior anti-malware solutions, not downloading suspicious files, updating software regularly, and adopting multi-factor authentication.
