The US Office of Policy of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) are planning to adapt electronic health records systems to better cater for mental health needs. The idea was put forward by ONC senior advisor Thomas Novak at the HIMSS24 health technology conference. He noted the main problems in this area were that data was not easily accessible or efficiently used.
