A generative artificial intelligence model combining quantum computing with traditional techniques has been able to design new molecules capable of targeting the KRAS protein, a key driver of certain cancers. Developed by researchers at the University of Toronto and AI drug firm Insilico Medicine, the model synthesised 15 molecules that showed they could inhibit KRAS. Two of these were deemed promising for future cancer treatments. This research, published in Nature Biotechnology, shows the potential of quantum computing for accelerating drug discovery.
