India’s digital public infrastructure faces major cybersecurity concerns. A US cybersecurity firm recently revealed that personal information of over 800 million Indian citizens was for sale on the dark web in one of India’s most significant data breaches. Among the compromised data were names, phone numbers, Aadhaar details and passport information. The identity thief, using the name ‘pwn0001’, allegedly obtained the data from a government database. India’s cybersecurity vulnerabilities have been highlighted in previous incidents as well, threatening sectors such as healthcare, fintech, and banking.
