The FLARE team, specializing in malware analysis and exploit analysis, successfully participated in the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program for the first time during the summer of 2023. The team collaborated with four contributors who helped add new features to FLARE’s open-source malware analysis tools. Notably, the FakeNet-NG, FLOSS, and capa tools were enhanced with new capabilities, such as an analyst-friendly display of network indicators, extraction of language-specific strings, and capability identification in dynamic sandbox traces, respectively. The team expressed appreciation for the learning experience and looks forward to future participations.
