HP CEO evokes James Bond-style hack via ink cartridges

HP CEO Enrique Lores has explained the company’s controversial practice of disabling printers if non-HP ink cartridges are loaded, claiming cartridges can carry viruses. Despite facing a current lawsuit over its Dynamic Security system, HP maintains the need for its deployment. While HP research has shown that third-party ink cartridges pose a theoretical cyber security risk, external cybersecurity professionals were sceptical about its real-world likelihood.
