A ransomware attack on UnitedHealth’s Change Healthcare left around 100 million people affected, making it one of the largest data breaches of U.S. health and medical data in history. The attack was claimed by ransomware gang ALPHV/BlackCat, which stole personal and health information from billing systems across the U.S. healthcare sector. UnitedHealth paid a $22 million ransom to the hackers, who have since disappeared. The breach was finally announced by UnitedHealth eight months after the attack.
