How Has the Federal Process for Surprise Medical Billing Disputes Performed?

The No Surprises Act, signed by President Trump in 2020, protects consumers from surprise medical bills and established a payment negotiation process between medical providers and health plans. It was found that only 1 in 8 out-of-network billing disputes went to the federal dispute resolution (IDR) process. The government proposed changes to increase early communication and efficiency in IDR.
