How close are we to a cure for metastatic breast cancer?

Efforts to develop effective treatments for metastatic breast cancer, which is currently incurable, continue with numerous promising clinical trials. Despite this, finding a cure is likely a long way off due to the disease’s complexity. Notable progress includes the FDA approval of Stemline Therapeutics’ targeted therapy, elacestrant, for certain advanced metastatic breast cancers, and promising results from AstraZeneca’s phase 3 trial for HER2-low metastatic breast cancer using trastuzumab deruxtecan. Emerging strategies leveraging AI and machine learning in cancer imaging also show promise.
