Hospital systems see rise in cyber attacks; what’s being done to improve safety

Cyber attacks on hospital systems have doubled between 2022 and 2023, potentially compromising millions of patients’ sensitive data, including addresses, birth dates, and social security numbers. Retired FBI supervisor, Andy Bartnowak, highlights a need for better staff training in recognising phishing schemes, improved security, and better policies to combat the increasing threat. Most health care organisations, such as Corewell Health, have been targeted, with hackers holding patient records for ransom.
