The HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has settled two ransomware investigations involving Elgon Information Systems and Virtual Private Network Solutions, both found to have gaps in their HIPAA risk analysis. Elgon reached an $80,000 settlement and VPN Solutions agreed to a $90,000 settlement. Both organisations have agreed to corrective action plans to ensure compliance with HIPAA security rules. This marks the OCR’s eighth and ninth ransomware investigations.
