HIPAA Not ‘Strong Enough’ for Health Care’s Cybersecurity Needs

Healthcare organizations need to increase their cyber defenses in light of a rise in cyber attacks targeting the sector. Measures should include identity and access management, vulnerability patching, phishing training, and effective backup practices. Ransomware attacks on the sector increased 128% in 2023, with the attack on Change Healthcare compromising the data of around 100 million people. Some experts suggest that more rigorous standards than the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act are necessary, with a new rule expected later this year.
