The Paso del Norte Health Information Exchange (PHIX) in El Paso, Texas, enables data sharing between regional hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare providers. PHIX’s clinical viewer allows doctors to access patient records, resulting in reduced hospital readmissions and emergency department visits. A validation study found that patients whose doctors could access their medical records were 61% less likely to be rehospitalized. PHIX engages with new providers through relationship-building and the involvement of stakeholders in committees.
