HIMSS presses NIST to keep cybersecurity framework voluntary for organizations

Healthcare IT professionals group HIMSS has asked the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to keep its Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity voluntary.
HIMSS believes the framework could be used for creating guidelines, methodologies and best practices in privacy and information security. The deadline for comments on the framework has been extended from Tuesday to 23 February. NIST views the response as helping with decision-making on how to strengthen the framework.
