The US Department of Health & Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR) recently presented reports to Congress showing continued issues with compliance to HIPAA, a law protecting patients’ health information. In 2022, 30,435 complaints regarding HIPAA violations were filed, with violations identified and penalised in 80% of cases. Despite heavy consequences, including fines and loss of trust, many healthcare entities apparently continue to fail in their duties under the law.
