HHS proposes HIPAA updates for healthcare providers to strengthen cybersecurity

The US Department of Health and Human Services is set to propose its first updates to HIPAA rules since 2013 to improve cybersecurity and better protect healthcare from cyberattacks. Changes such as updated definitions, technology asset inventory, network map revision, and written documentation of security rule policies are included in the rule. Reports suggest a 102% rise in large data breaches between 2018 and 2023.
