HHS layoffs could imperil medical device cybersecurity, Democrats say

Democrats and witnesses at a House hearing have warned that layoffs at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) could jeopardise oversight of medical device cybersecurity. The hearing followed HHS’ announcement of plans to cut 10,000 employees, in addition to 10,000 jobs already lost since Donald Trump assumed office. The Food and Drug Administration, which regulates medical devices, will see 3,500 jobs cut. Providers typically utilise legacy devices, which lack modern cybersecurity, posing vulnerabilities for cash-strapped facilities.
