In the first half of 2023, cyberattacks and health data breaches have affected tens of millions of Americans. The two largest breaches affected over 14 million people and each of the 10 largest breaches impacted at least 500,000. The US Department of Health and Human Services recorded more than 300 breaches, some related to cyberattacks and others due to inadvertent disclosure of private health data through social media tracking technologies. Experts urge hospitals and health systems to enhance defenses and response plans.
