‘Hello pervert’ email scam alert: Steps to take if you receive one

The “hello pervert” scam, which involves cybercriminals trying to extort money by threatening to release supposedly compromising webcam footage, is increasingly prevalent, with over 13 million reports submitted by August 2022 according to data from the Office for National Statistics. Experts at Malwarebytes advise people to not reply, to avoid clicking on any unsolicited attachments, and to not panic if they receive such emails.
