The US Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Sector Cybersecurity Coordination Center (HC3) has issued a warning about distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks targeting healthcare organizations. These attacks flood networks and servers with fake Domain Name Server (DNS) requests, slowing down or shutting down websites. NXDOMAIN DDoS attacks can negatively impact network providers, website owners, and end-users. HC3 recommends several measures to mitigate these attacks, including implementing DNS Response Rate Limiting and applying rate limiting on traffic to overwhelmed servers.
