Healthcare cybersecurity is in a rut, and hackers keep swinging

The number of breached patient records has decreased from 100 million in 2015 to 5 million in 2017, but the number of organizations reporting a breach has increased by 10%. The decline in breached records could be due to certain state actors avoiding healthcare data or larger organizations improving security. However, hackers are increasing attacks on IoT devices and mobile devices, with supply chain and cryptocurrency mining attacks also on the rise. Healthcare organizations are still struggling due to insufficient security budgets and lack of cybersecurity leaders.
