Cybersecurity company Darktrace responded to 45 cyberattacks on healthcare organizations in 2024, more than any other sector. Nurses suggest the industry is a lucrative target due to the sensitive nature of data and potential for disruption to critical services. Over two-thirds of compromises were due to phishing (32%) and edge infrastructure vulnerabilities (36%). Attackers also often target users with high access privileges or decision-making authority, and exploit trust relationships between healthcare providers and their vendors.
