Health data of 5.6 million stolen in ransomware attack

Ascension, one of the largest private U.S. healthcare systems, has been hit by a ransomware attack by the Black Basta group, affecting more than 5.6 million patients and employees. Names, medical data, payment information, and government identification were among the compromised details. The firm will offer 24 months of free IDX identity theft protection services to those affected and has alerted authorities to the breach.
