Online attackers have targeted Israeli organisations using a phishing campaign impersonating cybersecurity firm ESET. The scam involved phishing emails labelled as being from ESET, containing an alleged link to download an “ESET Unleashed program”, which instead downloaded a Zip file with data-erasing malware. ESET denied it was compromised and indicated its Israeli partner company had been hacked. The hackers may have wanted to undermine Israel’s cyber defense and used tactics also employed by pro-Palestine group Handala.
