Hackers hit Rhode Island benefits system in major cyberattack. Personal data could be released soon

A significant cyberattack has hit Rhode Island’s online system for health and human services benefits. The attackers demanded a ransom and may release personal data, including name, address, social security numbers, and banking details of many citizens as soon as this week. The state, along with vendor Deloitte, has contracted with Experian to establish a toll-free hotline for information and advised individuals to protect their personal information.
