Hackensack’s pediatric ED cuts early walk-out rate 82% – Becker’s Hospital Review

Hackensack University Medical Center’s pediatric emergency department (ED) has reduced patient wait times and the rate of patients not completing treatment by implementing efficient patient-flow improvements. These included a fast-track treatment area for lower-acuity cases, dynamic staffing models, and extending fast-track coverage to 24 hours. As a result, door-to-bed time fell 73% to 14 minutes, door-to-provider time dropped 68% to 16 minutes, and the rate of patients leaving before treatment completion decreased by 82% to 0.8%.
