Hack of PJ&A tops 2023 US healthcare data breaches as tally jumps by 4M

The 2023 cyber attack on medical transcription firm Perry Johnson & Associates (PJ&A) is now the largest U.S. health sector data breach, with over 14 million patients affected. Hackers exfiltrated personal data between March 27 and May 2, with companies like Cook County Health and Northwell Health among the firm’s clients impacted. The compromised information ranged from names, addresses, and medical details to social security numbers and insurance details. The firm had previously held sensitive data for millions of Americans.
