The Australian Government has unveiled a Russian, Aleksandr Ermakov, as the man behind the 2022 Medibank hack, causing the leak of 9.7 million Australians’ personal and medical data. Ermakov is the first person to face sanctions under Australia’s new cyber laws. Identified via numerous aliases, the decision to publicly name Ermakov aims to hurt his ‘cyber business’ and anonymity. Financial restrictions and travel bans have been imposed on Ermakov.
