A significant, global IT outage appears to have been caused by a faulty update to CrowdStrike’s Falcon Sensor cybersecurity software. The outage resulted in major organisations, including airlines, banks, media outlets and GP practices across England, facing substantial disruption. It is reported that Microsoft’s cloud platform, Azure, was also affected. Despite the chaos, there was no known impact on emergency services. The extensive adoption & privileged access of the Falcon Sensor contributed to the outbreak’s widespread effects.
