Generative AI (GenAI) is raising the bar for convincing attacks, with concerns over its potential for manipulation and social engineering. The ability of GenAI to create highly convincing phishing emails or deepfake videos has led to costly crimes, such as a finance worker being tricked into transferring $25m through a deepfake video call. The best defence is rigorous verification processes, awareness of oversharing and tailored security training that incorporates behaviour-based measurements. GenAI should be implemented as a workplace tool to guide decision-making, with appropriate governance frameworks in place.
