The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has blocked data firm InMarket Media from selling or licensing precise location data, alleging the firm failed to obtain informed consent from app users regarding the use of their data. It also accused InMarket of retaining location data longer than necessary. Earlier this month, the FTC also settled a case with data broker Outlogic over the sale of location data. InMarket denied the FTC allegations and said it was enhancing protections of sensitive location data.
