Upon discovery, the company immediately implemented corrective measures, including blocking suspicious accounts and corresponding IP addresses, while enhancing overall security protocols.
The breach exposed the following personal data: First and last names, home addresses, Dates of birth, Phone numbers (home and/or cell), and Freedom Mobile account numbers.
The company confirmed that payment card information, passwords, and PIN codes were not affected by the incident.
Freedom Mobile emphasized that there is no evidence that the exposed information has been misused. The company continues monitoring systems to prevent additional unauthorized access.
While the incident appears limited in scope, the breach highlights vulnerabilities in third-party access controls and account management security practices.
Freedom Mobile advises customers to implement protective measures, including: Regularly monitoring accounts for unusual activity.
Be careful with unexpected messages that ask for personal information or send you to login pages. Avoid clicking suspicious links or downloading attachments from unexpected emails or text messages.
The company also recommends that customers consult the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre for resources on fraud prevention and identity protection strategies.
This incident underscores the risks associated with third-party account access and the importance of robust identity verification and access management controls.
Organizations continue facing threats from sophisticated attacks targeting administrative credentials.
Security professionals recommend implementing multi-factor authentication, zero-trust access models, and continuous monitoring of administrative account activity.
