It is important for cybersecurity professionals to not only focus on defending against new attack methods, but also on protecting against long-existing threats such as phishing scams and known vulnerabilities. Major breaches in recent years could have been prevented with better protection strategies. Security professionals should abandon the perimeter approach to security and implement measures at every access point within the organization. Accountability and authority for security breaches should also be aligned.
