Feds Hit Health Entity With $950K Fine in Ransomware Attack

Heritage Valley Health Systems has agreed to pay a $950,000 fine to settle potential HIPAA violations. This decision came after an investigation into a 2017 ransomware attack against the healthcare system revealed numerous infractions of the HIPAA Security Rule. Along with the fine, Heritage Valley must also execute a corrective action plan. HHS OCR has noted a triple increase in reported ransomware-linked violations since 2018.
