Using a confidential informant and a bespoke decryption tool, the authorities seized BlackCat’s websites and collected evidence of their activities. The decryption tool, offered to over 500 victims globally, is estimated to have saved $68 million in ransom payments. Despite the gang claiming to have resumed operations, its reputation has been damaged, potentially affecting its criminal activities.
