Extreme weather injuries on the increase

Hospital admissions relating to injuries from extreme weather in Australia have risen over the past ten years, particularly those due to excessive heat, according to a report by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW). The report showed that the 10-year period from 2012 to 2022 saw 9,119 hospitalisations and 677 deaths from extreme weather-related injuries. Exposure to excessive natural heat caused 7,104 hospitalisations and 293 deaths.
