Extrachromosomal DNA Carrying MYC Drives Pancreatic Cancer Aggression

Researchers have identified extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA), carrying the MYC oncogene, as a factor contributing to the adaptability of pancreatic cancer. The genetic rings of ecDNA allow tumor cells to quickly increase gene expression, adapt their shape, and survive in harsh environments. The team suggests that detecting or disrupting ecDNA could offer new therapeutic approaches. However, these ideas remain at an early stage.
