Former cybersecurity consultant Vincent Cannady has been arrested for trying to extort up to $1.5 million from a publicly traded IT company. He threatened to disclose the company’s confidential data, alleging discrimination and claiming emotional distress. Cannady, who had previously worked on the company’s vulnerabilities, requested a 10-year Certificate of Deposit and a gag order. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years under the Hobbs Act.
