Enzo Biochem pays $4.5M for health data security failures

The biotech firm Enzo Biochem is to pay $4.5m after a ransomware attack affected 2.4 million patients in 2023. The payment will be divided among the states of New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey, who coordinated an investigation. It revealed that hackers gained access via employee credentials being shared, with one not having been updated for a decade. Stolen data included names, addresses, and medical treatment records. The settlement also requires Enzo to adopt new cybersecurity measures.
