Over 20,000 patients at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego are receiving HIPAA breach notification letters after employees accidentally emailed protected health information to job applicants on two separate occasions. One incident occurred almost two years ago, but patients are just now being notified. The information compromised included patients’ names, dates of birth, diagnoses, admit and discharge dates, medical record numbers, and insurance information.
