Austria’s biotech industry has grown rapidly, with Vienna becoming a healthcare hub for over 200 companies. These biotechs focus heavily on health applications, particularly in diagnostic tools and treatments for various diseases. Notably, several companies quickly launched COVID-19 programs during the pandemic. One prime example is a:head bio, which has raised over €4 million ($4.32 million) in funding, and is utilising AI and 3D culture technology to develop treatments for neuropsychiatric disorders. Many of these younger biotechs are based at the Vienna Biocenter, home to over 40 startups.
