East of England Ambulance Service declares highest alert level

Patients in East England are facing longer than normal waits for ambulances due to an upsurge in demand driven by respiratory illnesses. Paul Walsh, head of the East of England Ambulance Service, asked people to use alternative services, such as GPs or the NHS 111 non-emergency line, where possible. The service has increased staffing in response to the situation, but warns patients with less serious conditions may face delayed responses.
