Akira, a ransomware group engaging in double extortion, targeted 63 organizations, mainly SMBs, since March 2023, according to Arctic Wolf. Using Conti-related actors, the group demands ransoms from $200,000 to $4 million, with non-paying victims’ data released publicly. Akira spreads ransomware through compromised credentials, malicious emails, ads, and pirated software. Despite the development of a decryptor in June, the group adjusted its encryption technique to prevent free file recovery.
