Cybersecurity firm Eclypsium has discovered a vulnerability in a popular DNA sequencer made by Illumina. The vulnerability could allow hackers to disable the Illumina iSeq 100, used by labs for genetic analysis, or manipulate results of tests. Eclypsium found nine vulnerabilities in the system’s firmware, four of which had severity scores of 7.5 out of 10. Illumina has provided a fix and notified customers, and while the issues were deemed not high-risk, the threat of similar issues occurring in other devices using the same motherboards is present.
