The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed including digital therapeutics in its physician fee schedule for the first time. Despite this, the proposal does not cover all digital therapeutics and only includes three codes for FDA-cleared “digital mental health treatment devices.” However, digital therapeutics companies are still embracing the proposal as a win, as coverage by Medicare often leads to coverage by commercial insurance. The proposal is open to comment until September 9, with a final rule expected by the end of the year.
