Approximately 10% of US healthcare workers will misuse opioids or other controlled substances from their workplace during their career. Utilizing radio frequency identification (RFID) medication management technologies, Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego was able to prevent such behavior by tracking the original location of opioids and pinpointing potential issues. Incorporating this technology in all pharmaceuticals would help reduce time-consuming manual checks and accelerate investigations into any discrepancies, increasing efficiency and safety.
