A New York Post article claiming the Dutch are euthanizing autistic people is questioned for sensationalism. Of 900 people euthanized in Netherlands between 2012 and 2021, only 4% were autistic, and all had applied for assisted death. Dutch medical ethics permits euthanasia as relieving suffering and requires rigorous review process and consent from two physicians. There’re also checks to prevent coercion and consequences for misuse. A large part of US doctors support euthanasia too. More countries adopt liberal rules, while some are cautious and some prohibit euthanasia completely.
